Ecological Regional Development

Can regional economic development aims be achieved within ecological limits? How will international and national policies curb the impact of carbon emissions upon the regional scale? Does living within ecological limits imply the need for a greater localisation of economic activities? What would the appropriate environmental regional governance structures look like? How can sustainability be measured? How can social, economic and ecological aspects be balanced? The aim of this RSA Research Network is to explore these questions and to develop the concept of ecological regional development as a way to understand how future regional development strategies can contribute to and help to achieve environmental, social and economic development policy aims within the framework of sustainability.
